Due to health and time issues, “Suzy” is being offered for sale. She was built in 1955 by an unknown builder. I believe I am the third owner. She is cedar on oak, with a yellow pine bottom. Many Meadowlarks differ from the original design, and “Suzy” is one of them. I feel that the changes improve the boat. She has a doghouse, which allows for standing headroom in galley and head. Her rudder is fixed. She has tabernacles for the masts and a bowsprit, and she is now a marconi rig.
Her engine is a Volvo MD-11 from the 1970s, hours unknown. . It has a rebuilt water pump from 2015 and a rebuilt transmission from 2017. Many upgrades been done to the boat. since I purchased her on the hard at the Crosby Boat Yard in Osterville, MA. Sails, sail covers and cushions are new as of 2012. A set of very nice cockpit cushions were provided when the boat was used in the film “The Benefactor”.
After a trying time getting her launched in Buzzards Bay, we sailed her to Philadelphia, where the Independence Seaport Museum did necessary structural work. She stayed on the Delaware River for a year, and then was sailed down to Oxford, MD. Maintenance and upgrades have been performed there by Cutts & Case. The boat is currently in Galena, MD
Some of the work done to date includes new stem and a few planks; recaulking; new compression post; new hatch, new ports; new DC wiring; new galley; new woodstove; new composting toilet. The engine starter and freshwater system have been replaced. The batteries are new as of 2015.
Suzy isn’t perfect yet, but she’s a long way better than she was when I found her. She comes with vhf, new depth sounder, lots of ground tackle and other gear.
